It has to be said that when you're out of work, you do find that you have more time to waste. Mainly doing things like brousing the internet for stuff you can't afford, starting a blog, checking Facebook every five minutes etc...
Most people would probably be shouting, why don't you get a job then. Huh, easier said than done. I left my previous job not out of choice, but because my contract expired and the company couldn't re-new it as there wasn't enough work for me to do. I have worked in the picture library industry for a few years and the job I just left was my first well paid job since leaving uni.
For those of you who don't know, a picture library is a stock image library that holds an archieve of photography, digital imagery and/or transpariences, which are sold to clients. The clients may be book publishers, magazine publishers, or the images could be use in broadcasting TV news, advertising etc... (Just to give you an idea).
It's quite a specialist industry often formed of small family run businesses, the biggest being Getty and Corbis. It's a facinating industry to work in, especially if like me you are facinated in photography, art, history and digital imagery. At the end of the day the job hunting must go on and i'm hoping something comes along soon, if not then I might have to expand my horizons a bit.
